Citing a Nissan Motor Co. statement, the Associated Press (AP) said global sales in the year to the end of September reached 3.67 million vehicles.

AP noted that the carmaker said in May 2002 that, under its “Nissan 180” plan, it would boost annual sales by a million from the 2.6 million vehicles sold in the fiscal year ended March 2002. Selling more than 3.6 million vehicles means Nissan has reached that goal.

The Associated Press added that Nissan has already achieved its two other goals: raising operating profit margin to 8% and eliminating interest-bearing debt to zero. Nissan boasts one of the world’s highest operating profit margin levels among automakers, currently around 10%.

According to the news agency, Nissan said much of the sales growth came from North America, including Mexico and Canada, but also in Japan and Europe.
