Volkswagen has become the first foreign automaker to export a million vehicles to Japan, the Japanese arm of the German automaker told Kyodo News.
Japan began importing Volkswagen Beetles in 1953 and, of the million vehicles, the Golf has accounted for 550,000.
The automaker held a ceremony to mark the delivery of the one millionth Volkswagen – a Touareg SUV – to a Japanese port.
