Toyota’s [redesigned] Vitz [Yaris/Echo] small car remained the bestseller in new motor vehicle sales in Japan in May for the fourth straight month, with sales of 10,848 units, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said on Monday, according to Kyodo News.

Toyota reportedly accounted for six of the 10 best-selling passenger cars in the reporting month – its Corolla continued to rank second, with 10,694 units sold.
Honda’s Fit [Jazz] small car maintained third position from the previous month, Reuters added.
The report said association officials said most of the vehicles on the best-selling list were small cars and minivans, reflecting popularity of fuel-efficient compact vehicles that are user friendly.
Nissan Motor had two of the top 10 slots, with the Tiida ranking fourth and the Note fifth and Toyota grabbed the sixth to 10th places, except for eighth where Honda’s Step WGN minivan ranked, Kyodo said.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp., trying to recover from vehicle defect coverup scandals, didn’t have any model in the top 30, the report added.
