Two of Japan’s top five automakers said on Friday that production in Japan rose in October from a year earlier while three manufacturers reported declines.

According to The Associated Press (AP), Toyota said its production in Japan rose 0.6% compared to the same month a year ago to 314,705 vehicles, marking the second straight month of increase. Toyota’s exports climbed 2.9% to 177,349 vehicles in October for the third consecutive month of rise, boosted by brisk exports to North America and Latin America.


Nissan Motor reported a 16.1% decline in October production to 102,112 vehicles, due to slower sales of the X-Trail SUV and the Cube compact car models while exports rose 0.6% to 59,866 vehicles, the report said.


Honda reportedly said its production in Japan fell 5.8% year on year to 99,304 vehicles, marking the fourth straight month of decrease, and exports also dropped 12.7% to 39,424 vehicles for a third consecutive month of decline.


Mazda said it’s domestic production slipped 5.1% to 71,419 – the first decrease in five months, AP noted. Sales in Japan rose 0.7% to 21,169 vehicles and exports climbed 5.2% to 55,262 vehicles.

Mitsubishi Motors’ rose 23.9% on year to 58,658 vehicles in the latest reporting month, rising for the fifth straight month, but exports slipped 0.2% to 33,185, The Associated Press said.
