Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (MMC) today (27/6/00) authorised steps towards consolidation of its major US subsidiaries, in a newly-expanded Mitsubishi Motors America Inc. (MMA), located in Cypress, CA.

A new decision-making body, the North American Operations Committee, is to be established to provide strategic oversight to the company. A product quality/technical task force is also set to be created, to ensure the quality of manufacturing and new product design meets US consumer demand.

In addition to this, Mitsubishi Motor Manufacturing of America Inc. (MMMA), Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America Inc. (MRDA) alongside the key support functions of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc. (MMSA) and the current Mitsubishi Motors America Inc. (MMA) are set to be integrated, with consolidation completed by December 31, 2000.

The main aim of the consolidation is to focus on consistency, co-ordination and delivery of activities and services in an effort to improve operational efficiency.
