Hyundai Motor Group’s Kia Corporation has unveiled a pre-production example of its upcoming, all electric EV9 flagship SUV scheduled to go into production in the second quarter of 2023.

The company said the EV9 incorporates its new ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy which embodies its shifting focus toward electrification. The car has three rows of seats and is based on the HMG Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This is the second Kia model to use this platform after the EV6 launched last year.

Hyundai launched the E-GMP based Ioniq 5 last year, followed by luxury brand Genesis’ GV70 this year.

Kia said the EV9 has a long wheelbase, low belt line and its flat electric vehicle platform has “allowed the creation of generous space for all occupants to connect and relax in lounge style comfort in all three rows of seats”.

The second row seats can swivel 180 degrees so occupants can interact better with those sitting in the third row.

Kia said a key KV9 feature is its open, floating panoramic dashboard which has two 12.3 inch touchscreens integrated with one five inch segment display which together “offer effortless control of vehicle functions” and minimise the need for physical buttons.
