The eight-valve unit called VHC Flexpower runs on petrol, alcohol or a blend of the two and has a power output of 79hp when fuelled with alcohol. On petrol it develops 77hp.


The flexfuel engine replaces a 71hp petrol-only one-litre units in the Corsa range. Until now, Renault’s 16-valve 76 hp petrol-only engine was the most powerful one-litre motor made in Brazil.


The VHC Flexpower engine was developed by GM do Brasil in conjunction with Bosch. It was the first time that Bosch had worked with the automaker on a flexfuel engine. Until now all flexible engines used in Brazilian-made GM cars have had Delphi or Magneti Marelli flexfuel electronic systems.


The new engine has a compression ratio of 12.6:1.
