JATCO, a company focused mainly on the production of automatic and constant velocity transmissions (CVTs), is 75%-owned by Nissan Motor, 15% by Mitsubishi Motors and 10% by Suzuki Motor.

Nissan pointed out it has positioned powertrain electrification at the core of its future business strategy. Under its “Nissan Ambition 2030” long-term strategy unveiled in November 2021, the Japanese automaker announced plans to introduce 23 new electrified models by the 2030 fiscal year, including fifteen new battery electric vehicle (BEV) models and eight new hybrid models. Electrified models are expected to account for more than 50% of the company’s global “model mix” by 2030.

By sharing its R&D facilities with Jatco, Nissan expects to strengthen its engineering capabilities to meet the growing global demand for electrified powertrains.

Takashi Hata, senior vice president of the Affiliated Company Administration Department and Global Asset Management, said in a statement “making electrified powertrains lighter and more efficient is an essential part of our electrification strategy and we greatly look forward to JATCO’s contribution. Nissan and JATCO will continue to strengthen cooperation”.
