Volkswagen is checking reports of possible problems in three US models after officials came up with 107 cases where side airbags may have discharged improperly, the carmaker told Reuters on Thursday.

A VW spokesman reportedly said the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had asked it last week about the reports.
“We are investigating the cases and are in contact with the authorities about the inquiry,” a spokesman told the news agency, adding that it was unaware of any injuries from the incidents and that it had not recalled any vehicles.
Reuters said the investigation concerns up to 447,000 cars made between 2001 and 2003 including the Golf, GTI and Jetta models.
