Toyota will boost production at the plant being built in San Antonio by 50,000 trucks a year, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The Japanese car maker’s North American division reportedly said it would invest $US50 million more into the plant, bringing investment in Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas, to $850 million and production capacity to 200,000 vehicles per year.
Toyota’s Tundra full-size pickup trucks are expected to begin rolling off the assembly line by the end of next year. No decision has been made yet on whether to increase initial employment beyond the 2,000 announced for the San Antonio plant in 2003, AP said, citing a Toyota statement.
Toyota reportedly said the capacity increase would allow it to respond quickly to market changes should demand for the already popular Tundra continue to grow.
Toyota has been “extremely pleased with San Antonio and especially with the favourable business climate in Texas,” Dennis Cuneo, a Toyota senior vice president, said in the statement, according to the Associated Press.
