Honda Motor announced it plans to launch its all-new ZR-V in Japan next year, as it looks to strengthen its presence in the all-important compact SUV segment.
Honda said the ZR-V, which it plans to roll out across its domestic dealer networks in April 2023, was designed to combine practicality and reliability with a strong distinctive “design” and high levels of driver and passenger comfort. The vehicle’s lowered body provides the SUV with a more sedan-like driving position and handling experience.

The ZR-V will be available with a choice of conventional petrol engine and plug-in hybrid variants, including a choice of front-wheel drive (FWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) traction. The petrol models will be powered by Honda’s 1.5L VTEC turbo-charged engine, while the hybrids will feature a 2.0L direct injection Atkinson cycle engine which first appeared in the Civic e:HEV combined with the company’s two-motor e:HEV hybrid system.
The SUV will be available with a wide range of on-board driver assist and safety systems, including Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS); Collision Mitigation Throttle Control; Rear Collision Mitigation Throttle Control; Low Speed Brake Function (Low speed CMBS); Pedestrian Collision Mitigation Steering System; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) System; Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow; Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); Traffic Jam Assist; Lead Car Departure Notification System; Traffic Sign Recognition; Adaptive Driving Beam; Auto High Beam Headlights; Blind Spot Information System; Parking Sensor System; Backing Out Support; and Hill Descent Control (HDC).
Prices in Japan will start at just under JPY3m (US$21,000) includes taxes for the entry-level two-wheel drive (2WD) petrol model, rising to JPY4.12m (US$29,350) for the top 4WD hybrid model.
