Reports in Germany suggest that VW Group may delay its  flagship Trinity EV project and review manufacturing plans that centred around a new dedicated manufacturing facility.

Manager Magazin reported that the project could be delayed until nearer the end of the decade rather than the previous plan for 2026.

Furthermore, the company is reviewing the EUR2bn plan for a new dedicated greenfield site for Trinity that would be near its main Wolfsburg complex. It could rejig existing plant-model mix to accommodate Trinity.

Construction in the Warmenau district of Wolfsburg was to begin in spring 2023 with the first net carbon-neutral Trinity model due to roll off the assembly line from 2026.

VW Group CEO Oliver Blume reportedly also wants to delay the project because of delays to VW Group developed autonomous drive software.

VW’s ambition for Trinity is that it leads the field as a flagship EV and is future proofed with a high degree – SAE Level 4 – of autonomous drive capability.
