Toyota Motor said it had reduced its global vehicle production plan for November, in response to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors, which it blamed on the continuing global Covid pandemic.
The Japanese automaker said it planned to reduce vehicle output in Japan to 250,000 units next month while its overseas production would be cut to 550,000 units, for a combined output of 800,000.

The company said the ongoing supply chain disruption had prompted it to reduce its global production forecast for the current financial year, ending 31 March 2023, from its previous forecast of 9.7m vehicles.
The company did not provide a new full year forecast but said: “It remains difficult to look ahead due to the impact of semiconductor parts and other factors. However, we will continue to closely examine the supply of parts and work with related parties to consider all possible measures to ensure that we can deliver as many vehicles as possible to our customers at the earliest possible date.”
The company said it would suspend some November production for between two and nine days at most of its domestic plants with the Fujimatsu plant operated by Toyota Auto Body, which makes the Voxy and Noah MPVs, worst affected.
Production at Tsutsumi, which makes passenger cars such as the Corolla, Camry and Crown plus the RAV4 and Harrier SUVs, would be suspended for up to six days early in November.
