Dow Jones reports that the Australian government plans to provide assistance to workers affected by news expected Friday of layoffs at Mitsubishi Motors Corp.’s (MMC) Adelaide-based manufacturing unit. The report cited an anonymous source.
The assistance to workers in the engine manufacturing plant of the Adelaide operations, the amount of which wasn’t disclosed, will be offered to protect the South Australia state economy and that of its capital city Adelaide, the source told Dow Jones, asking not to be named.
The announcement on Friday is likely to concentrate on the future of the engine plant, the source added.
