AFX Asia reports that Toyota plans to start mass-producing motors for hybrid cars at its headquarters plant in Aichi Prefecture next year, citing The Nihon Keizai Shimbun as source.

In its online edition Saturday the newspaper said Toyota plans to boost output of the core component of gasoline-electric vehicles by 30% to 400,000 units a year.
Toyota expects global hybrid vehicle sales to more than double in 2005 to about 300,000.

GM originally planned to end the incentive Aug. 1, but it was extended to match Ford and Chrysler.
Ford and Chrysler have extended their discounts to Oct. 3.
“We’re starting to focus on transitioning to our ’06 models,” GM spokeswoman Deborah Silverman said. She said the company told dealers Wednesday the promotion was ending.
