The compact 2001 Volvo S40 and V40 models will debut at Canadian Volvo retailers in July with a mix of industry-leading safety, lively performance, competitive features and aggressive pricing that starts under $30,000, Volvo Cars of Canada Ltd. announced today.
The 2001-model four-door S40 and five-door V40 will arrive in Canada with a history of sales success in Europe and the U.S., plus a best-in-class list of standard safety features that will make the new cars immediately competitive in the market, says Volvo Cars of Canada president Ken Brusca.
“With starting prices of $29,995 and $30,995 respectively, the S40 and V40 represent terrific value and are expected to make a significant impact in the mid-market in Canada,” says Brusca. The Volvo 40 series includes industry- leading safety technologies, such as Inflatable Curtain side impact protection and dual-stage front air bags, as well as popular Volvo features like standard seat warmers and headlight wipers.

Powered by a 160 hp, 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine with light pressure turbocharging, the Volvo S40 and V40 feature a five-speed automatic transmission, four-channel anti-lock brakes, 15-inch alloy wheels and many other features as standard equipment. In addition to the Inflatable Curtain and dual-stage air bags, the list of standard safety equipment in the sporty sedan and versatile five-door includes the Volvo Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) with side air bags, Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) seats, and three- point seat belts with head restraints at all five seating positions.

The 2001 Volvo S40 and V40 will be available in July at 46 Volvo retailers in major markets across Canada.
