The eighth generation Honda Civic hatchback line, which has just gone into production at the car maker’s plant in Swindon has a number of Bosch components.

The Germany-based supplier makes electronic stability programme (ESP) systems for up to 85% of production – Honda calls the technology vehicle stability assist (VSA).

The remaining cars have Bosch-supplied antilock braking system (ABS) only – ABS is now mandatory in the EU.

Thirty percent of new cars registered in the UK now have ESP.

The Civic’s in-house-designed 2.2 i-CDTi diesel engine, also being produced at Swindon, has a Bosch common rail diesel system, developed specifically for the new model line.
