USA: GM to offer amoured Cadillacs - report

General Motors this month will begin taking orders for a fully armoured Cadillac Deville, Dow Jones reported. Options include run-flat tyres, a reinforced steel frame and bullet-resistant glass that won't shatter into the cabin of the car, the report added.

COMMENT: Vauxhall: sore loser

While General Motor's UK-based subsidiary Vauxhall halved its pre tax losses for 2002, the American owner has still failed to return its European operations to profitability. With a declining car market, GM is not on target to reach its 2003 objectives and may need to cut costs once more.

USA: Mercedes slips in 2004 residual value rankings - paper

Mercedes-Benz has been knocked off its residual value throne in the United States, Automotive News reported, noting that the German marque is among the losers in a new forecast of the future resale value of used vehicles while Cadillac and Nissan's Infiniti luxury brand scored big gains in Automotive Lease Guide's 2004 residual value rankings.

THAILAND: Ford says well placed for growth in Asia-Pacific

The Asia-Pacific region, already nearly as large as the automotive markets of North America and Europe, is poised to become the largest in the world by the end of the decade and the rate of growth that already has been experienced in the region has been higher than that of North America and Europe since 1985, according to a senior Ford executive.
