Delphi Automotive Systems DPH will supply significant electrical wiring content to Volvo Truck Corporation in Europe as part of a global contract with one of the world’s leading commercial truck manufacturers, Delphi announced.

Delphi’s Packard Electric Systems division will supply various wiring harnesses to Volvo Truck’s assembly facilities in Skovde, Goteborg and Koping, Sweden, and Ghent, Belgium. The European programs include commercial trucks of 16 tons and greater, and have annual volumes in excess of 40,000 units.

Delphi Packard Electric’s global wiring contract also includes Volvo Truck’s North American and Asia-Pacific region wiring harness business, as well as the opportunity to quote on wiring systems for bus, marine and construction equipment produced by Volvo subsidiaries.

“This contract positions Delphi as Volvo Truck’s primary global wiring systems supplier, and can be attributed in part to Delphi’s outstanding quality performance with current Volvo Truck business in Europe, as well as Delphi’s full-systems supplier capabilities, which is what Volvo requires,” said Marc van Reusel, Delphi Packard Electric’s Volvo Truck global customer manager. “Delphi’s engineering expertise, including the support of numerous resident engineers working jointly with Volvo on designing and developing total wiring system solutions, is another reason for Delphi’s continuing relationship with this valued customer.”

In December 1999, Delphi announced the North American portion of the global wiring contract with Volvo Truck. That contract provides for Delphi to supply main cab and engine wiring assemblies for Volvo Truck North America’s Class 8, or heavy-duty, trucks. In the Asia-Pacific region, Delphi supplies complete wiring harness sets for Volvo Truck’s production in Bangalore, India, and a significant part of the wiring harness sets for Brisbane, Australia.

Multi-national Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy, Mich., USA, Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a world leader in mobile electronics and transportation components and systems technology. Delphi’s three business sectors — Dynamics & Propulsion; Safety, Thermal & Electrical Architecture; and Electronics & Mobile Communication — provide comprehensive product solutions to complex customer needs. Delphi has approximately 216,000 employees and operates 179 wholly owned manufacturing sites, 41 joint ventures, 53 customer centers and sales offices and 31 technical centers in 39 countries.
