The move is the latest sign of increasing collaboration between the compact  vehicle specialist and its parent.

No official announcement on the small SUV has yet been made and Kyodo News cited sources familiar with the matter.

Daihatsu Auto Body Co., a Daihatsu subsidiary, will produce 40,000 Be Go SUVs a year. Toyota will sell the SUVs under a different name.

The new SUV is the successor model for Daihatsu’s Terios, which was also sold by Toyota under the name Cami. Daihatsu ended production of Terios this November.

Annual capacity at Daihatsu Auto Body’s plant is being raised from 150,000 units to 200,000 units and will be further boosted to 250,000 vehicles by the end of next year.
