Bosch has made its 100 millionth common-rail injector for a passenger vehicle diesel engine.

The technology was launched in 1997 and to date more than 23 million passenger cars have been fitted with it.

During 2005, Bosch has made 26 million common-rail injectors for use in passenger vehicles from seven locations across three continents.

The third generation common-rail system, using innovative piezo-inline injectors, is currently manufactured at three of the company’s production facilities in Germany, Turkey and Japan.

Almost 50% of all newly registered passenger vehicles across Europe are now powered by diesel engines, using an average of 30% less fuel than equivalent petrol models.
