Honda Malaysia managing director Seiji Kuraishi told reporters following the launch of the new Accord model that the company intends to capture at least 30% share of the non-Malaysian car market in 2004, Dow Jones said.

According to the report, Kuraishi said it is projecting higher car sales in 2004 due to the introduction of new Honda models in the country, which are expected to attract new customers.

In his speech earlier, Kuraishi also said the company “is very much on track to meet” its sales target of 18,000 cars in 2003 after selling around 6,000 cars in 2002, Dow Jones added.

The company said it wants to sell 6,000 units a year of the new Accord, the report said.

Dow Jones noted that Honda Malaysia is 51%-owned by Honda Motor Co. of Japan – the other shareholders are Malaysian companies DRB-HICOM Bhd. with a 34% stake and Oriental Holdings Bhd. with 15%.
