DaimlerChrysler expects to move $US344 million worth of spare parts through its Singapore logistics centre to the rest of Asia next year, Bloomberg News reported.

The centre, which started operations this year, is handling the distribution of parts for the company’s Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Chrysler, Jeep and Smart vehicles, the report said, adding that the parts are shipped to Singapore largely from Germany and the United States through shipping line Hapag-Lloyd and others.
The centre may handle parts for Mitsubishi Motors and truck parts for Hyundai later, Guenter Egle, senior vice president of global service and parts for Mercedes-Benz, told Bloomberg News at a press conference.
The news agency noted that DaimlerChrysler and rival car makers are increasingly focusing on Asian sales as rising demand from China helps to offset faltering sales in the United States and Europe.
Frank Messer, chief executive officer of DaimlerChrysler’s Southeast Asia office, told Bloomberg News that the company expects to sell about 26,000 passenger cars in Southeast Asia next year, up from the 22,000 it forecast it will sell this year.
