“(On Thursday) it was confirmed that Saarlouis (in Germany) will be the main production centre for the new Focus and Valencia will participate in the project, chosen over the Cologne plant,” the spokesman told the news agency, confirming a newspaper report.

Reuters noted that the Almussafes plant already shares production of the first generation of Focus cars with Saarlouis.

From January to October, Ford made around 320,000 vehicles at Almussafes, of which 150,000 were Focus models, the report said, noting that the other cars made at the Valencia centre are the Ford Ka, Fiesta and Mazda 2.

Reuters said Almussafes employs 7,100 people, produces about 400,000 cars per year and will continue to produce at the same level as the new Focus replaces the current model in 2004.
