DaimlerChrysler’s talk-of-the-town PT Cruiser model scored poorly on a US Government crash test, reports Associated Press (25/7/00).
The 2001 model, a hit with consumers since its launch back in March, scored two stars out of a possible five in a test measuring risk for serious injury in a front driver-side crash, said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday (25/7/00).

The two-stars achieved represents a 36 to 45 percent chance of a life-threatening injury to a person wearing a safety belt.
Quoting Matthew Reynolds, DaimlerChrysler’s Director of Vehicle Safety, the report says that while the company was expecting at least a three-star rating on the front driver-side test, it was important to keep this type of rating in perspective.
The PT Cruiser faired better in other tests with the car scoring four points for both a front passenger side crash alongside a side crash on the drivers side. The vehicle achieved a perfect rating for the rear passenger’s side crash test.
