Delphi and PSA Peugeot Citroen today showed their jointly developed ‘Environmental Technologies Vehicle’. The demonstration model incorporates technologies designed together under the terms of the ‘innovation plan’ signed between the two groups in September 1999.

The Peugeot 206 Environmental Technologies Demonstrator contains technologies that can further reduce fuel consumption, hydraulic fluid content and emissions. The technologies include:
– electric power steering;
– electromechanical braking systems;
– the E-Start function using a reversible alternator, Energen;

The technologies on the vehicle are designed to enhance the three fundamental aspects of automobile innovation — environmental protection, safety and comfort.
“The vehicle demonstrates PSA Peugeot Citroen’s ability to focus a vast range of in-house and our supplier’s expertise on specific vehicle issues,” said Denis Chapuis, PSA Peugeot Citroen.
“This vehicle evolved from a study conducted during 2000, in which we evaluated Delphi’s ability to substantially improve all aspects of small- vehicle performance,” said R. Scott Bailey, director of engineering, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems. “One of our conclusions was that we have many excellent technologies for improving efficiency and emissions, and would like to see how they could be optimised in a very tightly packaged vehicle with a diesel engine. This car will help us answer that question.”
Many of the technologies in the Environmental Technologies Demonstrator are being developed with PSA Peugeot Citroen as part of the innovation plan, but several have been fitted by Delphi for its own research purposes. This vehicle does not, therefore, necessarily indicate which technologies PSA Peugeot Citroen will specify in the future.
