Recalls of vehicles in South Korea leapt in 2010 as new safety rules were enforced.
According to the Korea Herald, which cited a government report, 270,000 vehicles were recalled in 2010, up 110,000 units from 2009. The number of vehicle models was also up, to 87 from 81 in 2009.
Of these, the report said, 15 were locally made vehicle models with 72 being imports.
The government report said that the increase was a reflection of the more stringent attention paid to safety issues in the wake of the problems encountered by Toyota in the US last year.
