Toyota has issued 2015 sales figures that show it sold 10.15m units in the year, 0.8% below the previous year’s total, but ahead of Volkswagen Group in second place.

Volkswagen Group led the field in the first half but saw its second half sales dented by the ‘dieselgate’ crisis. VW Group managed sales of 9.93m vehicles sold last year. General Motors was in third place with sales of 9.8m units.

Last year’s results that put Toyota top mark the fourth consecutive year that Toyota has topped the sales table.

Worldwide Toyota production last year was put at 10.08m units, some 2% under the previous year.

Toyota said it was the fourth consecutive year of increase for the brand’s production outside of Japan, due to increased production in North America, Latin America, Europe and Australia.
