I've been reading about BMW's strategy for ironing out potential niggles on the new 5 Series. BMW employees - drawn from all levels - were let loose on some 500 units for pre-launch testing. The testers were instructed to imagine themselves as BMW customers and report back any problems. The quality people must be especially on the lookout for difficulties with electronics systems these days. But one of the things that needed an urgent remedy was, apparently, the boot (trunk) lid opening too fast and hitting the hapless tester on the forehead. An air valve was subsequently fitted to the lid release mechanism to overcome the problem. Ouch!
