Blog: Dave LeggettVW shake-up

Sounds as if Bernd Pischetsrieder may be looking to shake things up a bit at Volkswagen. Now is probably a good time - 2003 isn't shaping up to be a good year for Volkswagen. An ageing model line-up, dollar depreciation against the euro and slipping market share in Europe will erode profits. 2004 should be better. He must be itching to get to grips with the sales and marketing problems that have resulted from brand overlap and excessive platform consolidation. Buechelhofer's departure suggests that he probably didn't much care for BP's 'clean sheet of paper' approach. With him gone, changes to the sales and marketing structure will be easier to implement.
