I'm going up to the Royal College of Art in London tomorrow for an event that looks at trends in cockpit design. I get invited to quite a few things, but I don't go along to everything. There's that 'sensible use of my time?' consideration that we all have to make. But this one intrigued me. Visteon is sponsoring a 'Future Cockpit' project and there are a series of presentations from RCA people as well as a guy from Visteon (Jim Fleming). There's an exhibition too. I really don't know what to expect or just how conceptual it will be. For some strange reason I have the image in my mind's eye of the boy in the film 'Flight of the Navigator' in the pretty minimalist cockpit of his spaceship (called Max), issuing commands and being transported effortlessly to the destination in seconds. A little bit like using Google Earth...
