Blog: Dave LeggettUK and the euro

Interesting to see in our latest feature that Honda takes a backseat on the 'UK in euro or not' question ('a decision for the British people'), unlike Ford and Toyota who have been voiciferous in the past in putting pressure on the government to get the UK to join as soon as possible. Mind you, I wonder if the damage to intra-EU diplomatic relations that has been wrought by disagreement over policy towards Iraq has put the question, effectively, off the agenda anyway. There was always going to have to be some delicate negotiation over the rate at which Britain joined, but I cannot imagine Jacques Chirac and Tony Blair sitting down in a positive atmosphere to discuss that in the foreseeable future. Referendum put back, at least, I'd say.
