The wider use of organic materials in the auto industry has been much speculated in the past, but my impression is that there are not that many examples of practical applications. The pineapple plant based headliner on the Brazilian made Fox small hatchback is one of the few. But Ford and Lear are planning a soy bean based foam for the seats on the '08 MY Mustang. Interesting one.

With the price of oil where it is (and no real prospect of a significant decline anytime soon, or indeed stretching out to the medium term...), the incentive must be there to look for alternatives to synthetics and plastics. And Henry would no doubt have approved.
