Blog: Dave LeggettNew engine for Tata Safari

Dave Leggett | 10 August 2005

I see Tata has introduced a new engine for its Safari SUV. Sounds like a step (if a small one - there's a mighty 115bhp to play with now) in the right direction as the existing 2-litre diesel only manages 88bhp. To put it mildly, that is not a lot of power output on a two tonne vehicle. I did spot a rare one on the road the other day, but Tata will struggle to make a significant dent in the SUV sector with a product that is clearly an inferior proposition to the likes of the Kia Sportage. One of my colleagues in India notes that Tata's Safari has a nickname there: 'Suffer I'.
