There are some tough times right now for suppliers in the US having to absorb large increases to raw materials costs. How far should a firm that is in trouble due to something unforeseen at contract stage expect its customer to help it out? Common sense suggests that a completetly intransigent attitude on the part of the customer could backfire if supply is threatened (although, of course, a judgment has to be made on how serious that threat really is). GM is talking tough though.
