I've been in an e-mail dialogue with Ron Harbour - he of the widely respected Harbour Report - on the subject of labour productivity in the automotive industry (specifically at the final assembly stage). The contact stems from my comments in a recent weekly newsletter ('Editor's Weekly Highlights') about the problems inherent in comparing productivity levels between vehicle manufacturers' assembly plants. The work his firm conducts is carried out for the industry and much of it is not for public consumption, but he says he wants to provide an article for just-auto on the subject. Watch this space.
