Looks like the Italian new car market is continuing to fall back after the ending of the government incentives-inspired boom. Total new car sales in Italy are expected to be around 180,000 in May, down from 208,000 in May last year, according to the Italian importers' association UNRAE. It's certainly not good news for Fiat that its home market is decreasing. Talking of Fiat, I picked up a corking rumour recently involving a potential tie-up with another maker. I was sworn to secrecy, but let's just say that sometimes the desperate and the distressed seem to find each other when the going gets rough.
