Blog: Dave LeggettBursa to Bursa

Dave Leggett | 26 April 2007

I'm out with just-auto contributor Mark Bursa this evening for a bit of a catch-up. He tells me he was in the Czech Republic for a Hyundai 'cutting the sod' ceremony earlier this week. Hyundai Motor Chairman Chung Mong-koo was there and also attended the grand opening ceremony at Kia Slovakia too. Did the felon take to the stage to an accompanying tune of some sort I wondered? 'Jailhouse Rock' by Elvis? The much covered 'I Fought the Law' perhaps? Nope. It was Land of Hope and Glory, apparently. Slightly bizarre as there was no English/Brit connection. Maybe they just wanted something rousing and someone selected that particular Elgar tune (great tune it is though....hang on a minute, wasn't it St George's day earlier this week?).

Anyway, just-auto copy replete with Bursa insight is in the pipeline.

The intrepid Mr Bursa is heading for Bursa in Turkey next week - a Fiat visit. Renault is in Bursa also and the place is a bit of an auto industry hub. But I am just amused that he'll be reporting from a place that shares his surname. He can sign off: 'Mark Bursa, Bursa'. That could sound a little like Boutros-Boutros Ghali - so good they named him twice. Yes, simple things please simple minds, I know.
