I nearly choked on my cornflakes when I read The Sunday Times report that the British government is investigating putting monitoring chips in cars so that your every move and legal transgression (such as speeding) is known. The worrying thing is that the technology to do this is basically today's technology and some parts of the government machinery - the police and the Treasury - may be especially keen on such a scheme. But it's a pretty nightmarish vision in my view. What next? Chips in people to check that they are eating the right things and generally behaving themselves?
