GERMANY: Daimler considers expanding US sourcing

Daimler is considering expanding production in the US in light of the weak dollar.

According to the Euro am Sonntag newspaper, Daimler's finance head, Bodo Uebber, said that that "with current exchange rates, of course, it is worth examining whether it makes sense to purchase more in the USA, or to produce more in the dollar zone."

Daimler doubled capacity at its US plant in Alabama in 2005. "We were ahead of the game then," Uebber said.

After the split from Chrysler, Daimler is no longer interested in buying a stake in another volume vehicle manufacturer, he added.
