Metaldyne has announced it will supply powder metal forged connecting rods for the Chrysler Group's new 5.7 litre HEMI Magnum V-8 engine that launches later this year.
Metaldyne says the new supply agreement represents a growing trend by carmakers, who are replacing traditional metal-formed connecting rods with powder-metal rods to add strength, reduce weight and eliminate manufacturing steps.

The engine will be used on 2003 model-year trucks and SUVs, including the Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram and Dodge Durango. Metaldyne will manufacture the connecting rods at its new facility in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.

"We are pleased to be supplying powder metal connecting rods for this much anticipated engine," said George Thanopoulos, Engine Group president. "Metaldyne has positioned itself as the global leader in powder metal connecting rod technology, supplying powder metal rods for over 30 engines to six vehicle manufacturers in four countries."
