Toyota has announced that it will start leasing fuel-cell hybrid passenger cars to four Japanese central government agencies on December 2nd. The four customers are the Cabinet Secretariat, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment, which will each procure one Toyota FCHV (fuel-cell hybrid vehicle) on a 30-month lease contract.

According to a Kyodo news agency report, the company is claiming that the Toyota FCHV will be the 'first market-ready fuel-cell vehicle to be certified by the transport ministry'.

The report says that the initial four cars will be used by the ministries in the Tokyo metropolitan area, where hydrogen supply facilities and other necessary infrastructure for fuel-cell vehicles will be soon installed.
