THAILAND: Toyota targets 80,000 sales in 2001

Toyota Motor Thailand expects domestic sales to rise while exports drop this year.

Domestic sales have been targeted to increase by 7,000 to 80,000 units, maintaining market share at just over 27 percent, while exports will drop from 16,000 to 12,000.

A company spokesman said the expected fall in exports is because Toyota Australia has asked for a cut in the number of Thai-built vehicles sent 'Down Under' which reduce sales of locally-built models.

Thailand has become a major source of Japanese-marque vehicle exports in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years.
