French automaker Peugeot has told the Mexican Trade and Industry Ministry that it is seeking to establish an assembly plant in Mexico and is currently looking for partners in the country, according to local media reports (31/7/00).

Exports from Peugeot`s Chilean production site to Mexico total less than 10 per cent of the car maker`s total import quota as stated under the Mexico-Chile free trade agreement, say the reports.

The car manufacturer is said to have annual sales in the country totalling only 300 units, hence the move to boost Mexican sales volume.
