Following the recent announcement that Susan Docherty is to leave General Motors, the company has appointed Thomas Sedran as her replacement.

Sedran, 48, will assume his new Zurich-based role as president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe on 1 July. He has been a member of the Opel/Vauxhall Management Board in charge of Operations, Business Development and Corporate Strategy since 1 April, 2012.

"With more than 20 years of experience in the automotive business, Thomas will be key in driving the business and the long-term strategy for Chevrolet and Cadillac's success in Europe," said Tim Lee, GM vice president of Global Manufacturing, and president of International Operations. "We thank him for his outstanding work at Opel/Vauxhall and for taking the lead at Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe."

Prior to joining Opel, Sedran was in charge of automotive business affairs for global management consultants AlixPartners, based in Munich, for six years. In this position, he worked closely with Opel/Vauxhall.

Today's announcement comes after other recent changes within General Motors' European operations.
