US: Mazda winds up car manufacturing operations

The AAI (AutoAlliance International) plant at Flat Rock in Michigan has built its last Mazda6 sedan. The company will import the replacement model for North American markets from its Hofu 2 plant in Japan.

Even though AAI, which has been going since 1992, will now build only Ford cars, it remains a Ford and Mazda 50-50 JV. The factory's only other product is the Ford Mustang but $550m is about to be invested to add production of the company's Fusion sedan from 2013.
