A sport-utility version of the Fox might be the next Volkswagen to come to Europe from Brazil, reports Automotive News Europe.

VW do Brasil export director Leonardo Soloaga said VW is considering building the CrossFox in the country.

"We are analysing the technical and financial viability of this version," Soloaga said. The Fox was launched in Brazil last month and will be imported to Europe in early 2005 to replace the Lupo.

In addition to the CrossFox, VW announced the development of a sporty version of the Fox called the Fox Pepper this month in Brazil. This model could succeed the 1.6 GTI Lupo model.

Soloago said Volkswagen expects to build 150,000 units of the Fox in 2004 and 2005. The volume will rise to 250,000 units in 2006. He said Europe will get 25,000 units of the Brazilian-made Fox in 2005 and 125,000 units in 2006.

VW do Brasil exports the fourth generation Golf to the USA and started exporting Polo four-door saloons to Europe in August though Germany is the only country getting the model right now.

Soloaga said the car will reach more European markets, such as Spain and Scandinavia, in 2004.
