Zhejiang Geely-owned Volvo Cars has begun production of sporty S60 and V60 Polestar models at its Torslanda factory in Sweden.

The Polestar variants have a developed chassis with high performance dampers and brakes, four wheel drive and a 350 hp turbocharged I6 engine. The S60 (sedan) version was initially test marketed in Australia.

This is the first time an independent partner has been involved in the production process.

"We are very happy to see the first ever complete production cars be built in the factory. It is a satisfying result after many hours of work by the people behind this," said Henrik Fries, Volvo's S/V60 Polestar technical project manager.

"It is an exciting process as there are many new and unique Polestar components that need to work seamlessly in the factory without interrupting the production of other models. The cooperation with Volvo works really well and we are looking forward to an exciting future together."

The Torslanda factory recently marked 50 years of production and has made over 6.8m cars, starting with the Amazon in 1964.

Only 750 Polestar models will be built this year for Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the US.
