Volkswagen is working on wireless charging for its electric and plug-in hybrid cars and could start offering this type of charging in 2017, AutoGuide.com reported.

The company has confirmed that wireless charging stations are in development though the complete technology is around three years away.

Herbert Ruholl, Volkswagen's head of electric car developments, said one major concern was technology standardisation that would enable vehicles from different companies to be charged inductively on the same platform. He did not disclose any pricing details.
