PT Toyota-Denso Automotive Compressor Indonesia has announced the start of operations at its newly-built US$88m auto components plant in the West Java town of Cikarang, around 70km (40 miles) east of Indonesia's capital city Jakarta.

Japan's Toyota Industry Corporation has a 50.1% stake in the company while PT Astra Otoparts - the Jakarta-listed auto parts division of local conglomerate Astra International - owns 25.7% of the equity; Denso Corporation 20%; and Toyota Tsusho 4.2%.

The plant produces compressors and clutches for automotive air conditioning systems. It employs over 1,900 people and has the capacity to produce up to 4m parts per year.
The factory supplies parts to vehicle assembly plants across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond, including Toyota, Daihatsu, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Honda, Ford and GM.

In Indonesia, Toyota and Daihatsu produced a combined 680,000 CBU (fully assembled) and CKD (kit) vehicles last year – or close to 60% of total output in the country - while in Thailand Toyota alone produced 635,000 assembled vehicles.
